Energy
Europe is at the forefront of transitioning towards renewable energy sources, with solar power emerging as a key sector for investment. Recent developments highlight the strategic partnership between Cube Infrastructure Managers and The Dillinger Group, aimed at deploying solar photovoltaic (PV) capacities across Germany and Northern Italy. This joint venture, known as CubIKS GmbH, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing push for sustainable energy solutions across Europe's largest economies.
On March 27, 2025, Cube Infrastructure Fund III and The Dillinger Group announced the first closing of their newly established joint venture platform. The partnership is focused on deploying 1 GW of solar PV capacity over the next five years, emphasizing ground-mounted installations, rooftop-mounted systems on commercial and industrial real estate, and carports. The potential integration of Battery Energy Storage Solutions (BESS) is also a key component, as it will enhance energy security and accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
Established in 2006 by Simon Dillinger, The Dillinger Group has built a reputation as a fully integrated provider of renewable energy solutions. Their expertise spans from developing and constructing large-scale photovoltaic plants to offering industrial storage and charging infrastructure. Over the past 18 years, The Dillinger Group has successfully invested over €150 million in the development and operation of 36 PV plants in Germany and Italy. This includes extensive M&A activities, acquiring, refurbishing, and refinancing various solar projects.
Cube Infrastructure Managers, an independent mid-market infrastructure investor founded in 2007, brings deep sector knowledge combined with operational and financial expertise. They have successfully invested in and grown renewable energy platforms across Europe, particularly in Iberia and Norway.
Germany and Italy are among Europe's largest and most attractive markets for renewable energy investments. Both countries have strong governmental support for transitioning to a zero-carbon economy, which is crucial for investments in solar PV.
While the partnership signals a major commitment to renewable energy, several challenges and opportunities arise in this context:
The strategic partnership between Cube Infrastructure Managers and The Dillinger Group underscores the growing importance of solar energy in achieving Europe's renewable goals. This initiative not only contributes to the decarbonization of the energy mix in Germany and Italy but also highlights the potential for collaborative efforts between private investors and local developers to drive sustainable energy transitions.
